A RAINY SPRING WEDDING
One of the things brides normally stress most about is what the weather will be like on their wedding day. It's the one thing completely out of your control. Not so with my girl, Lauren! Lauren and Jacob tied the knot on Friday, April 28th, and when they heard the weather forecast called for rain all day, they weren't fazed in the slightest. After meeting them, you quickly can see why; this couple is so completely in love with each other, that the normal details of a wedding day that might cause stress, just melted away. They were so ecstatic to be getting married!
The day began in West Bloomfield at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, a small parish that some of the family attends. Everyone arrived with excitement at what the day would bring. Lauren giggled as she told me that she based her wedding day attire off of the shoes. She found a pair of Lulus and knew they were the shoe for her! She found an exquisite dress with gorgeous lace detail on the bodice that accentuated her tiny waist. As we hung it in the window to capture photos, the light softly floated through its tulle layers.
Lauren and Jacob decided to share a first look before their ceremony. I always love when couples do this because it creates another special moment in the day for the couple to share, plus, it helps calm any nerves the couple might be having. As Jacob turned around and saw Lauren for the first time, his eyes lit up with joy. "You are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" he exclaimed as he grasped her hands. You can tell Jacob notices details for a living as a Sheriff's Deputy, because he proceeded to list out every detail of her beauty, from her earrings to her makeup to her shoes (which he was thankful did not make her taller than him!).
The ceremony was a precious time with just the closest of friends and family in the beautiful traditional church, with stained glass windows and rich wooden beams overhead. It was a sweet and intimate time as the couple pledged their lives to each other before God and entered into the holy sacrament of marriage.
The reception was held at the Fraternal Order of Police in New Baltimore. The rain was still coming down and so I was very thankful for the large porch where we were able to capture some couple portraits before the party started. As a photographer, I'm always problem solving to figure out how to give my clients the bet photos possible based on light, weather and setting. With so much rain, we didn't want to soak our sweet bride and groom, but I was so thankful when there was a moment where the rain softened and we were able to run onto the patio to capture a handful of photos under an umbrella to showcase the beautiful spring greenery and weeping willows on the property. I always pack clear umbrellas just in case for moments like these! My favorite photo of the day is when the wind picked up and dramatically blew Lauren's veil and dress as she and Jacob gazed into each other's eyes under the protection of their umbrella.
I'm always so humbled and blessed by the amazing couples I get to work with, and Lauren and Jacob were no different. From our first phone call, I knew there was something special about them. I saw that time and time again in our interactions by their kindness and thoughtfulness towards others. Their wedding day happened to fall on my birthday, and I was excited to spend it capturing their story. Yet even at THEIR wedding reception, they presented me with some gourmet cupcakes they had made for the occasion! What a precious gesture! That just shows the kind of couple that Lauren and Jacob is: loving and thoughtful to everyone they meet! I am so excited for them and their life together and I know that their marriage will bless everyone they encounter. Congrats!
